PADI Divemaster Course - Phuket, Thailand

One Chance

The first thing to consider when deciding where to take your PADI Divemaster course is that you will only ever take this course once. Secondly, you are now entering the professional realm of diving. What can be more important at this stage of your career than receiving the best training available?

With such a wide range of choices of where to go it can get confusing. PADI Resort, 5 star IDC center, 5 star CDC center - which one? Forget the type of center, the most important factor is who is going to teach you. This is where we excel with three highly experienced and enthusiasticinstructors. Course Length and Accommodation

Your Divemaster course takes place on the beautiful tropical island of Phuket. We recommend taking your course over a 3 to 6 week period. Any less can be stressful, any longer and you can end up losing focus on what you are doing. In terms of accommodation, we suggest renting a bungalow if you intend to stay for a couple of months. We can assist you in finding a suitable place. If less time then we can recommend a couple of guesthouses that would probably give you a good package if you were to stay for a month or more.

Course Overview

The course itself is split into three modules: Knowledge Development, Water skills and Stamina, and Practical Application. Details as follows:

Knowledge Development

• Watch the PADI Divemaster video
• Read the PADI Divemaster manual and complete all knowledge reviews.
• With the aid of the PADI Divemaster manual, the Encyclopediaof Recreational Diving, the Knowledge Workbook AND your instructor, study and sit eight exams as follows: Supervising Students, Supervising Certified Divers, Divemaster Conducted Programs, Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Decompression Theory and the RDP, and Dive Skills and Environment
• Create and complete an Emergency Assistance plan.

Water skills and Stamina

• Four timed swim tests as follows: 400 metre swim, 15 minute float/tread, 800 metre snorkel swim and 100 metre diver tow
• Rescue Assessment
• Show demonstration quality skills e.g. Mask remove/replace.

Practical Application

• Mapping project
• Equipment exchange test
• Make a Divemaster Conducted Program e.g. conduct a PADI Scuba Review
• Guide certified divers in Open Water
• Assist instructor during various training courses including PADI Open Water course.

Course Pre-requisites

• The pre-requisites for starting your divemaster course are as follows:-
• 18 years of age or older
• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent
• PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent
• Proof of minimum 20 logged dives
• Diving medical certificate (can be arranged in Phuket for a minimal fee of US$ 4).

Training Dives

At Sharkey Scuba we believe that to be a good divemaster requires building experience as well as just completing the necessary training. During the course we offer 25 dives, mainly boat, some beach, visiting most of the major dive sites around Phuket and Phi Phi. We also offer a number of pool training sessions which in our view are as essential and rewarding as the open water dives. At the end of the course we also offer you the opportunity of any day trip or liveaboard trips at a 15% discount to help you build up your personal diving experience.

Up to 10% discount for advanced online bookings:

• Standard price: 34,900 baht per person
• 10% discount price: 31,410 baht per person

What's Included

• A minimum of 25 training dives up to 30 in total (time permitting)
• Training dives are a mix of beach and boat dives including visits to the major dive sites of Phuket and Phi Phi (subject to availability)
• Tanks and weights rental for all pool sessions

Not Included

• Divemaster study materials
• Personal dive insurance,
• PADI certification costs,
• Equipment rental

The current price for your PADI Divemaster course is 34,900 baht (approx US$ 1,000). Price includes a minimum of 25 training dives at a variety of Phuket and Phi Phi dive sites plus all pool sessions. Not included: divemaster study materials, PADI certification costs, equipment rental, personal dive insurance.

PADI requires that you have, in your possession, a personal set of materials for study and use during the divemaster course and for reference afterwards as follows:

• PADI Divemaster manual
• RDP (Table and eMLRDP)
• The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving
• Diving Knowledge Workbook
• Divemaster Slates
• Instructor Guides for programs that divemaster may conduct

Dive Equipment

PADI requires that you have the following minimum equipment for any confined or open water dives during the course:

• Mask, snorkel, fins
• Regulator including alternate air source
• BCD with low pressure inflator hose
• Weight system
• Exposure suit
• Timing device and depth gauge (or dive computer)
• Compass
• Knife/dive tool
• Emergency signalling device (whistle, flare, inflatable signal tube)

We strongly recommend that you have your own set of diving equipment. If you wish to purchase any equipment then we at Sharkey Scuba offer a 10% discount off any diving-related equipment bought during your divemaster course. Alternatively you can rent a full set for the duration of the course at a special price of 4,000 baht.

Bookings/Payment

To register for the Divemaster course we require a 30% non-refundable deposit. The remainder of payment is due in cash (Thai baht) at the start of your course. Payment can be made either by bank transfer to our Thai, Swedish or UK account (preferred) or alternatively by credit/debit card via secure e-mail.
